Whats my best bet for a replacement battery?

I've heard a lot of good about an Optima, but also a lot of bad. Also, they are out of my price range.

Old battery in car is 6ish years old and OEM.

Derp edit: Car in question is an 08 Civic 1.8 5mt.

What kind of car?

Nothing beats OEM IMO. My factory motorcraft battery lasted 9 years

Take the old battery to NTB, get a new battery, put it in the car.

Definitely OEM. My bro's Jetta's got the standard battery for the past 9 years we've had it. It's about time we get a new one.

National Tire and Battery. Guess what they sell? haha.

That's where my family goes for new batteries. Never had a problem and I think the prices are pretty good. And they'll take your old batteries for you (but I don't think you get money for them, not sure).

OEM would be the best option, but after searching around, it seems Walmart's EverStart MAXX line is the best for value batteries, and apparently AutoZone's Duralast Gold is also very good.

A group 65 motorcraft for my car is like 105 dollars, a napa equivalent is about 85.

I think battery quality is not as important if you live in a warmer climate. Most battery brands will be good enough unless you live somewhere cold. So unless you live in canada or something, it's not worth the extra money. Just my two cents.

What carcrasher said. That info comes from Consumer Reports testing the crap out of 50 or so different brands/types of batteries. The ratings vary with battery group size but Walmart's house brand was pretty much near the top of the lists for the the cheapest. I don't remember Autozone's brand exactly but it probably was second best like carcrasher said. Sears Diehard brands were all over the map, some top, some near the bottom depending on group size. The AGM type were also up and down and way more expensive. There's only a few battery manufacturers (like Johnson Controls I think?) and these 4 or whatever make the batteries for all the different brands and stores.

Almost all OEM and store brand batteries are manufactured by Johnson Controls nowadays. So I just get the cheapest one that has a decent warranty. My last few cars have used Costco "Kirkland" store brand batteries, and I have had great luck with them.

Not sure about their batteries but the markup on their brake parts is absolutely ridiculous, would not go based on that.

I'll second the Duralast ones, that's what I usually put in and have always had good luck with. Seem fairly reasonably priced too.
